November 23, 2017

The primary branch of the Karmapa Center of Education has started receiving its first graders, both boys and girls. The students come from throughout the Himalayan region: Nepal, Bhutan, Sikkim, Ladakh, as well as the local regions of Darjeeling and Kalimpong. The parents of these children are families deeply rooted in Buddhism, which forms their centuries-old traditions and culture.

The team of instructors and the caretaker are made up of the monastic sangha, local and foreign primary school teachers, complemented by housemothers, all taking care of the wellbeing of the students

The grand vision of the Karmapa Center of Education (KCE) is to form into an association of Buddhist education centers combining contemporary and traditional aspects of learning. According to the age groups and major fields of study the individual KCE branches make up:

  • A primary Co-ed branch
  • A secondary branch for girls
  • A secondary branch for boys
  • A village of arts and science

The opening of the primary branch of the Karmapa Center of Education marks the beginning of the greater vision to be realised in the coming years.
